An explosive mixture
As money was short as usual, the town of Nördlingen intended to reduce the area to be sealed. For this purpose, the filling area had to be stockpiled. The area obtained could subsequently be used for recycling and depositing of building residuals, for example.

However, the relocation of an old landfill is a tricky matter: anaerobic decomposition processes produce toxic substances which may pose a risk to the workers’ health and safety. The most toxic of substances in this process is methane. Methane is highly explosive. Pffff… Puffing is part of the trade
By application of the Biopuster technology, oxygen is “puffed” under high pressure into the waste. The result is an aerobic decomposition process during which marsh gases fail to develop. Finally, 130,000 m³ of waste had to be relocated. HPC remediated the landfill base and established a sealing against the old landfill. By stockpiling the landfill, the area to be sealed was reduced by two hectares. In total, Biopuster technology and waste relocation saved the town of Nördlingen  770,000 €.
